History

Wilson Hodge & Groh  is the successor firm to the design firm of Wilson & Wilson Architects. The firm has over sixty-five (65) years of continuous service to the communities of Illinois and maintains its status as one of the state’s oldest architectural firms. More than 200 communities in the state of Illinois have had the "Wilson" name associated with the design of their educational and civic building facilities. Founded in 1938 as McCoy & Wilson, the business became known as D. Clarence Wilson, Architect in 1948. In 1960, it evolved into Wilson & Wilson, with the addition of partner, C. James Wilson. Wilson Hodge & Groh is currently owned and operated by Richard L. Kirkpatrick.  M. Kent Piper and Richard L. Kirkpatrick became owners and directors of this long-standing architectural firm in 1995 and were joined by J. Brent Lance as an owner and director at the beginning of 2001. The firm continues to prosper and maintain a constant work load. Keeping pace with technological industry developments in the past few years, the office has transformed its operational focus to computer aided design, document production and office management. Our relatively small size contributes to proper administration of projects which vary in size. Detailed attention is consistently rendered by the firm’s principals. Our technical expertise and design sensitivity allows production of work in which our clients can take great pride. We strive to provide long-lasting, economical and aesthetically pleasing design solutions to even the most stringent project criteria. We respect your budget. We respect your ultimate project goals. We respect the individuals that participate as directors, employees and public users of the facilities. Our emphasis is Service.

The firm currently maintains offices at 28th and Casey in Mt. Vernon, Illinois and offers complete architectural, engineering, design and planning services to educational, commercial, religious, civic and industrial enterprises.

Services

Normally, we provide complete services for architectural design, site planning, civil and structural engineering in our office. Complex buildings sometimes require the use of an outside structural engineering consultant. Unusual topographic conditions may require a consulting civil engineer. When design professionals are needed to address specific project requirements, we employ consultants such as mechanical, structural, civil environmental and electrical engineers, as well as specialty consultants as needed. We regard our primary role as the coordinator of information and design ideas, taking the ultimate responsibility for the appropriateness of the decisions made on behalf of the project’s owners and users. One of our primary consultants is McCoy & Howard, Consulting Engineers, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois. We typically employ their services in the areas of mechanical and electrical engineering. Their experience is extensive and diverse. We have had an excellent working relationship with their firm for the past twelve years. Having the same relative capability and workforce size as Wilson Hodge & Groh, we have found their services to be consistently appropriate and economical.
